Most managers were promoted for cooking, serving or hustling. Not for running a P&L.

The skills that decide whether an operation makes money are rarely taught, and you don’t get many chances to practice them without real cost.

Variance without a diagnosis

“Food cost is high” is not a finding. Separating usage, waste, price, mix and shrink is.

Coaching that stays vague

Good conversations name the facts, the owner, the change and the date. Most skip at least two.

Briefings full of excuses

Your district manager needs the number, the dollars, what you know and what you’re still checking.

How it works

Learn restaurant management through seven operating cases

Seven cases cover food cost, labor, guest traffic, food safety, turnover, delivery profitability and handling a health inspector. Each puts you in the general manager’s seat with the information a real operator would have.

Diagnose

Read the P&L and the evidence. Pick the real drivers, not the loudest excuse.

Coach

Talk to the chef or supervisor. Facts, ownership, expected change, a check date.

Brief your boss

Give your district manager the number, the dollars, the known and the unknown.

Plan

Three actions at most. Owner, date, expected point move, and how you will verify it.

See the result

The next period’s P&L comes back. Explain what worked and what did not.

Scoring

Judgment is earned by decisions and outcomes, not smooth talk.

Your Manager Judgment score comes from what you diagnosed, what you decided and what happened next. Communication is scored separately, so a polished speaker can’t hide a weak diagnosis.

Diagnosis

Corrective plan
35%
Outcome
25%

Manager Judgment is provisional after your plan and becomes final once you see the next P&L. Communication (your coaching and your briefing) is reported alongside it.

Built for operators

Made by someone who has run the operation.

ManagerIQ is designed around real foodservice operating decisions, the ones that show up in a weekly review and a period-end close.

New and aspiring managers

Build the P&L fluency that gets you the next role before you’re asked to have it.

Working GMs and kitchen managers

Rehearse the hard conversations and the boss briefing before you have to give them for real.

Questions

Restaurant manager training: your questions answered

Who is ManagerIQ for?

General managers, assistant managers, kitchen managers and operators-in-training in restaurants, contract dining, healthcare, education and other foodservice operations. If you are accountable for a P&L and a team, it is built for you.

How is my work scored?

Diagnosis is scored against the actual answer key for the case. Your coaching, briefing, plan and Period 2 explanation are scored by an AI evaluator working from a written rubric for each stage. It rewards specifics, ownership and follow-through, and it is told not to reward polish or executive-sounding language.

What does “100 AI interactions per month” mean?

Each time you submit a written response for AI scoring, that counts as one interaction. Lessons, dashboards, your saved results and the P&L Fundamentals module do not count. The allowance is per month and resets monthly, including on the annual plan.

Do I need to know how to read a P&L first?

No. P&L Fundamentals is a free module that covers percentage points, dollar variance and how to state a miss clearly. It takes a few minutes.

What is IQ Analytics?

IQ Analytics is the ManagerIQ operations dashboard included in your membership. Explore KPI investigations, evidence-linked recommendations and a three-action operating plan with sample data today. Members can import daily sales, daily labor totals and inventory count variances from CSV or Excel in the guided import beta, with source evidence, traffic-versus-ticket comparisons, labor % and sales per labor hour, and the largest inventory variances by dollars. Automatic POS, payroll and inventory-system syncing is not included.

Can I cancel?

Yes. Cancel any time from the Billing page; it takes a few clicks and needs no email. Access continues to the end of the period you paid for.

Is my data private?

Your responses and scores are stored under your account and are visible only to you. Training cases use a fictional restaurant; do not paste real company or employee information into training responses. For IQ Analytics, upload only operating reports you are authorized to use. Imported daily sales and the selected source columns are stored under your account, separately from the sample dashboard. Do not include customer, employee or payment details.
